Sarah Palin. The GOP just won’t give us enough credit.

It was a disturbing thing to wake up to after such a wonderful night. After hearing John McCain had selected a woman to be his running mate, I sprinted to the television screen (Dear God, sweet, merciful Jesus, no, not Condi) only to turn on the tube and ask the same question the commentators were asking. “Sarah who?”

After an excruciating 8 minute research on Sarah Palin’s page on Wikipedia, I had my answer. Yet I was befuddled.  There’s no need in furthering this poor woman’s reputation by repeating the matter that she has no Foreign Policy experience (just received her US passport July 2007), has met with John McCain only once before being placed on the ticket, is 3 years younger than Senator Barack Obama, or that she has only been a state Governor for 1 and half years. No, that’s not my style.

That having (not) been said, what can Sarah Palin possibly have that could add to McCain’s appeal and the GOP brand? A vagina.

Showing off the goods.

Showing off the goods.

McCain’s campaign wasted no time using Palin to pick up Hillary’s old supporters, noting they would be the party to break through the 18-million-cracks ceiling. But praise for Hillary was not met well by McCain supporters.

But why should the GOP care? Palin isn’t there to woo the McCain crowd, but the disillusioned Democrats and Independents who have yet to cross over to Obama’s side. Those old Hillary supporters so fascinated by the dream of having a female president that it clouded over their concern for issues and ideology. The ones who said, “Fuck issues, give me a woman, any woman!” The ones I assume will have a comfortable place in the sixth circle of Hell.

No one should underestimate the motives of the GOP. They’ve decided to play the American Idiot card, which has served them very well in the past decade. They’re fighting a past war – many can only hope it’s a sign of desperation from a disintegrating party.

OR perhaps they have something hidden up their sleeves, a hidden tactic, a secret weapon Palin carries inside that fruitful womb of hers. These crafty folk know exactly where to hit first – Sarah Palin’s Wikipedia page was drastically updated the night before the announcement by a campaign insider.

Only the election will tell if they deserve more credit than they have given us.
